I’m just going thru some stuff yesterday minding my own business, and I see this article:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I have a Mini, and I like it. I’ve had no issues(knock on polyurethane) so I’m surprised they rated Mini the 3rd worst in reliability above only Jeep and Fiat.
Which is weird, b/c only 3 months before this article, they said Mini was Top-10 in reliability over its parent company BMW(who is #10 in the link above):

2 different sites, but both are claiming these are from CR. I find it very strange a car maker can go from 10th to 26th in less than a quarter. What do you guys(and gals) think here?

me think they have different ‘reliability’ standards.
like so one of them, if the cup holder is too small, and a customer comes in and complains, its a reliability hit

I don’t trust CR as far as I could throw their book if I did it page by page, turning them into paper airplanes and throwing them over the edge of the Grand Canyon.

Those aren’t the same rankings. They rated Mini third worst overall, not in reliability.

But in the report for the “Overall” they said it scored the “lowest possible reliability rating.”

Yeah, but how many 2014's are going to be over 180k/mi? Trust me, I know the 1G and 2Gs are awful. And perhaps I’m a sucker to think the all BMiniW will be different - that said, if BMW is ranked so high, I hope to think my 2015 Cooper S is more in that realm.

Consumer Reports is garbage for car relates quality concerns. With that said, Mini rightfully earns their bad reputation for reliability.

I think this survey is mostly 1st and 2nd gen, the reports of reliability probably vary so much. they may be averaging in or taking into account new models only, etc.

I find it hard to trust CR ever since I saw their overall car rankings from 2014. They ranked the Camry Hybrid overall a better car than the new Corvette. I don’t care what the category is, it could be “which car has more doors?” The Corvette should never be ranked lower ever when compared to a Camry Hybrid.

It required a bit of looking...not only is CR’s online stuff not well organized, but neither of the articles you found cited their sources all that well. Internet journalism sets a pretty low bar, unfortunately.

I’m of the firm belief that ConReports is just a bunch of idiots pretending to be car guys. Their reliability reports are just jokes. Also they’re kinda brainless. In the most recent issue, they complained that the Smart ForTwo was slow. WHAT DO YOU EXPECT OUT OF A CAR THAT HAS LESS THAN 90 HP?!?!
